Older women are doing it for themselves

As the years go by, women begin to subconsciously shrink away from the fashion limelight, opting for comfort and reliability, rather than being experimental with new, exciting styles. Wary of not having that perfect size 8 figure anymore, a lot of women hide their insecurities behind baggy, plain and unflattering clothing. For some it’s become a habit they’ve grown accustomed to over the years, with their younger self inside, just screaming to be let out in those denim hot pants again.
So with the new season fast approaching – ditch those jumpers and get up to date on how being an older woman, doesn’t have to be a bad thing.

Making the most of what you've got

Now and again we look through our wardrobes and the inevitable desperate wail of ‘I don’t have anything to wear!’ occurs. On the outside it may look like we have hundreds of items hanging up, folded up, thrown into a heap at the bottom. . .but deep down we know we will always crave new clothing. But of course this ideology is both delusional and damaging – to our bank accounts! So here’s a few, well thought out and practiced tips on making the most out of what you have.

Fashion to the maxi

The Maxi Dress - one of the most controversial pieces in fashion. We’ve all seen them on the 5’9, size 6 models on runways all over the world, hugging their figures perfectly and enhancing those beautiful willow frames. But for those of us not blessed with the ‘tall and skinny’ gene, we’ve always been more wary. ‘Would it make me look even shorter?’, ‘would I look like I was wearing a long potato sack?’
After summers spent in the usual shorts and skirts I decided it was time to put the Maxi Dress to the test.

Dressed for royalty

After months of eager anticipation, the day finally arrived where we were at last able to witness Kate Middleton living every little girls dream: marrying her Prince Charming. But there was a third party to this ceremony, that some were even more eager to see – her wedding dress.
Speculation concerning the dress started the moment the ring was on her finger. Who would design it? Would she go for the traditional long train, or a more modern, sleeker version? Names from Sophie Cranston to Bruce Oldfield were thrown around, but it was the late Alexander McQueen who melted our hearts on the big day, with close friend and now head of his company, Sarah Burton, making the gown.
